African Outfitter

AFRICAN OUTFITTER is an up-market bimonthly publication promoting fair hunting and ethical business practices within the hunting industry. From a hunting perspective, the preservation of biodiversity on the African continent is our first and foremost priority. The emphasis is however also on the sustainable utilization of wildlife. This is a magazine about the true African wilderness and its wildlife. Stories of big-game hunters of yesteryear hunting elephant, buffalo, lion and other wild beasts in the Dark Continent’s pristine wilderness but also about our modern-day hunting heroes and their adventures in the Africa of today make for fascinating reading.

The very first AFRICAN OUTFITTER magazine appeared on the shelves in 2005, a glossy publication of about 100 pages. It is distributed to more than 30 countries, offering quality articles and outstanding photographs to readers worldwide. Due to popular demand now available in digital format for reading across the globe.

Why are we different.
This is a classic hunting magazine preferred by the more serious hunter. It is fast becoming a collector’s item and hunting enthusiasts can purchase leather-bound volumes of AFRICAN OUTFITTER to add to the collection on their bookshelves.

Fly Fish America

Fly Fish America is a different kind of magazine—in a lot of different ways. We’re not a bunch of ivory-tower journalists here at Fly Fish America. We’re just a bunch of guys like you who live to fish, and can speak and write fairly good English. When we test and review fly rods, reels, lines and accessories, we present the results in a straightforward, no-nonsense format that provides all the information you need to make a purchase decision—including the price.

We all live and work in New Hampshire’s Mount Washington Valley, surrounded by the White Mountain National Forest. The Saco River flows past our office, with its East and Rocky Branches a stone’s throw away, and the fabled Ellis, Sawyer and Androscoggin Rivers just up the road. The Big A (as in “Atlantic”) is less than sixty miles to the east, and the entire New England Coast is within easy striking distance. Needless to say, we have no shortage of fly-fishing opportunities.

The print version of Fly Fish America can be picked up at over 1,200 fly-fishing retailers nationwide who distribute the magazine. Those retailers include all Cabela’s, Gander Mountain, Dick’s, Scheel’s, Sportsman’s Warehouse and other “big box” stores, as well as your local, independently owned fly shop.

Digital subscriptions are available on an annual basis, which includes four issues published between January and June. The digital issues of Fly Fish America include everything that appears in the print magazine, plus additional content and videos available exclusively to digital subscribers.

Single-issue downloads of our back issues are also available.

NZ Trout Fisher

Trout Fisher has been New Zealand’s only dedicated trout fishing periodical since 1991.

It’s 100% Kiwi Owned & Produced.

AIM: To promote New Zealand trout fishing in the spirit of public ownership.

Its owner, publisher and editor describes himself as “a classic fly fisher but atypical magazine purchaser”, meaning that he fly fishes impulsively but only buys magazines deliberately, and very few at that. Typically, he feels, magazines are 66% advertising and 33% reading, offering little value to the reader. Although advertising is always welcomed then, it’s fair to say Trout Fisher remains a deliberate attempt to achieve the reverse.

The magazine began when the publisher contracted rheumatoid arthritis and was forced to create new work. He had never published anything other than reports before, but a trout fishing magazine looked a fully viable (not to mention highly attractive) solution.

The initial intention was simply to produce a retirement fund but as the magazine’s scope expanded and publishing knowledge grew, that intent rapidly became something much larger.

Originally a single folded black-and-white A4 newsletter, New Zealand Trout Fisher has steadily progressed to the 48-page full colour magazine it is now; firstly entirely through direct sales and currently, a combination of direct and distributor sales. Subscriptions are handled in-house and are available in both print and digital form.

Maybe one day the publisher will retire then, but it’s hard to see that happening when producing the magazine has become such an integral part of our lives; not to mention, so much fun. So for now the intention is to keep going until either old age dictates or, if he wishes, his son takes over.

The African Fisherman

The African Fisherman magazine is intended to portray Fresh Water fishing, from the many inland waterways to major rivers such as the Congo, Zambezi, Cunene as well as the great lakes of Africa from Nassa in the north to Tanganyika in the east, as well as Lake Kariba and Cahora Bassa. Due to our significant regional readership, editorial coverage of saltwater and coastal destinations (Mozambique, South Africa, Botswana, Namibia, Angola and the East Coast) are included on a regular basis. Fish species are similar throughout the Southern Africa region, and much of the content is applicable to anglers anywhere in Africa, while exciting species like the tigerfish, and mighty vundu (reaching well over 100 pounds), are a natural focus. There is much cross border movement by anglers in the region, as well as an increase in visitors from off the continent, necessitating detailed information on destinations, accommodation and other tourism based facilities geared toward the angler. This magazine travels with them and is structured to offer a “shop window” to adventure angling in southern Africa. In addition to our regional readership we enjoy the support of hard copy readers in more than 30 countries around the world.
Our Mission Statement:-
The African Fisherman is published six times per annum by Mag-Set Publications (Pvt) Ltd in association with African Sporting Publications, as a service to the community, and is committed to the preservation of the environment and its angling resources. We support junior angling and a policy of selective harvest of all species, and catch and release of certain species, and the fostering of goodwill among all beneficiaries of these resources.
